How to Plan a Breeding Chain in Palworld 1.0

Some Pals can't be bred directly from anything you own — you have to breed an intermediate Pal first, then use thatto breed your target. That's a breeding chain (some players call it a breeding tree). This guide shows how to plan one backward so you never waste cake on a dead end.

Why breeding chains exist

Every Pal is produced by specific parent pairs. If none of those pairs use Pals you own or can easily catch, you need a middle step: breed one of the required parents first. Chain two or three of these steps together and you can reach almost any Pal from a handful of common starters — without catching the rare ones directly.

Plan backward, not forward

The trick is to work from your target back toward what you already have, not the other way around:

1. Start at the target. Open your goal Pal in the breeding calculator. It lists every parent pair that makes it, ranked by how easy the parents are to obtain.
2. Pick the easiest pairat the top of the list. If you own both parents (or can catch them easily), you're done — no chain needed.
3. Don't own a parent? Recurse. Click that parent to open its breeding page, and repeat: find the easiest pair that makes it. Keep stepping back until every branch ends at a Pal you already have or can catch.
4. Write the chain in order. Reverse your path and you have a shopping list: breed A + B → C, then C + D → target.

A worked example

Say you want a Pal whose only easy combo needs a parent you don't have. You open that parent's page, find it's made by two common Pals you already own, and breed it first. Now you have both parents for the final step. Two breeds instead of a long grind — that's the whole point of planning the chain before you start.

Tips for shorter, cheaper chains

• Always take the "easiest parents" pair. The calculator ranks combos by how cheap the parents are to obtain, so the top of the list is almost always the shortest path.
• Reuse Pals across branches. If two steps both need the same intermediate Pal, breed a couple of them at once.
• Carry passives down the chain. If you want specific passive skills on the final Pal, introduce them a step or two early so they can be inherited forward.
• Legendaries end the chain differently.Legendary and reworked Pals are same-species only, so their "chain" is just catching two and breeding them — see the legendary guide.
