Palworld Stats & IVs: How Breeding Inheritance Works
You've probably noticed that two Pals of the same species aren't equal — one hits harder or has more HP at the same level. That's individual stat values, and it's a big part of why bred Pals beat wild catches. Here's how stat inheritance works when you breed in Palworld 1.0, and how to roll for a better base.
Species, passives, stats — three separate things
It helps to keep the three parts of a bred Pal apart:
- Species is fixed by the parent combination (the breeding calculator tells you which).
- Passive skillsare inherited from the parents' combined pool — see the passive skills guide.
- Individual stats are the hidden per-Pal values that make one HP or Attack roll higher than another of the same species.
How stats pass to a hatchling
A bred Pal hatches at level 1 with its own fresh stat roll, influenced by its parents. In practice that means breeding from high-quality parents tends to produce high-quality offspring — but each egg is a new roll, so you won't get a perfect Pal every time. This is the same reason serious breeders hatch a batch and keep the best one rather than settling for the first.
Why breeding beats catching
A wild Pal comes with whatever stats and passives it spawned with — you can't change them. A bred Pal lets you control all three levers at once: pick the species via the combo, funnel in the passives you want, and roll for good stats by hatching multiple eggs from strong parents. Stack all three and you get a Pal that's simply better than anything you'll find in the field.
Where mutation fits
Mutation is the stat ceiling. A mutated egghatches a Pal with higher base stats than a normal roll can reach, plus a chance at a passive from the mutation pool. If you're already hatching batches for stats and passives, breeding with premium cake gives each egg a small shot at that ceiling for free.
Practical routine
- Get the passives you want onto both parents (how to).
- Use the strongest-statted parents you have of that pair.
- Hatch a batch, compare stats, and keep the best hatchling as your new breeder for the next round.
