Palworld Breeding Guide: How Breeding Works in 1.0

Breeding is how you build the strongest Pals in Palworld 1.0 — better than anything you'll catch in the wild. But the system has a few moving parts, and 1.0 changed some of them. This is the complete beginner's guide: how breeding works, what you need, and what the 1.0 update changed.

What you need to start breeding

• A Breeding Farm built at your base.
• One male and one female Pal. Gender matters for breeding — you need both. (There is exactly one gender-specific combo exception, covered below.)
• Cakein the farm's feed box. No cake, no egg — this is the ingredient everything else depends on, so set up steady cake production early.

How a breed actually happens

1. Assign a male and a female Pal to the Breeding Farm and keep cake stocked.
2. After a short time an egg appears. Pick it up.
3. Place the egg in an Egg Incubator; it hatches after a timer (temperature-matched incubators hatch faster).
4. The baby hatches at level 1 and joins your team.

What decides the child's species

This is the part most guides get wrong after 1.0. The child's species is decided entirely by the combination of the two parents— not by their levels, stats, or which one is male. Every parent pair maps to a specific child in the game's breeding table. Because 1.0 rewrote that table, most pre-1.0 recipes now produce something different. Always check a pair in an updated breeding calculator before you commit cake and incubation time.

What the child inherits

The species comes from the combo, but the good stuff comes from inheritance:

• Passive skills — the child can inherit up to four from the combined pool of both parents. This is the main reason to breed. See our passive skills guide.
• Stats — bred Pals roll fresh individual values, so a hatchling can end up with a better base than either parent.
• Mutation — a small chance per egg for a mutated Pal with higher stats and unique passives (details here).

The 1.0 rules to remember

• Old recipes changed. The 1.0 table rewrite means most pre-1.0 combos hatch a different Pal now.
• Legendaries and unique Pals are same-species only. You can only breed a Jetragon from two Jetragon, and reworked Pals like Orserk are same-species too — see the legendary breeding guide.
• One gender-specific combo exists: Katress ♀ + Wixen ♂ produces Katress Ignis, while the reverse produces Wixen Noct. Every other combo is gender-neutral.

Your first breeding project

Pick a Pal you want, open its page in the breeding calculator, and start from the easiest-to-obtain parent pair at the top of the list.
